I'm typing this review right on my brand new Samsung NC10 in the color pink. I ordered this netbook to use comfortably outside of my home without the hassle of huge heavy laptops, wires, and bulky plugs. I didn't expect very much from this tiny little netbook, but when I received it in the mail, it BLEW ME AWAY. I was between buying this netbook and the Acer netbook, and I'm VERY glad that I chose this one. On normal laptops, I hated that it was so heavy and didn't fit anywhere. The bottom of the laptop would get burning hot, even with the loud cooling fan. It was so hot, that I literally burned myself trying to lift it off my bed onto my desk. As for other competition netbooks, they don't even compare to the Samsung NC10. The others (such as the Acer) compact their keyboards into uncomfortable keyboards with their shift keys on only one side, and etc. The screen is a little short for my taste, but it's the best it could be.

Pros:
-Amazing keyboard, full keys, just like a full-sized laptop. the inside of my laptop is pearly matte white that could never get dirty or filled with dust.
-Webcam with very high quality camera and an AMAZING mic. I vidchatted with my friend the night I opened this from the box, when she was in California and I was on the other side of the country, and the quality was just unbelievable. It was like talking to her in person.
-The netbook is incredibly light, and not dense like in other netbooks.
-As soon as I opened the netbook, I opened it up and switched out the 1GB memory with a 2GB memory that I bought with it. Although I did not try to work the netbook with the original 1GB memory, I'm sure that it was decent.It now goes much faster than even my home computer or my full-size laptop.
-I bought a handy little metallic silver case for it from CaseCrown, so I tote it around everywhere: the library, starbucks, anywhere with wifi or anywhere quiet where I can work on school reports and essays.
-When I first opened the netbook up, it took literally 10 minutes to install Windows, customize my wallpaper and screensaver, download my AIM, ooVoo, and uninstall the free trial of McAfee security program that the netbook came with. Extremely easy to set everything up.
-It didn't come with Microsoft Office, but it took 5 minutes to purchase(just $10) and install it.
-The bottom of the netbook never gets too warm, but maintains a lukewarm very comfortable temperature.
-Battery power is incredible, where you can keep it on for up to 6 hours nonstop.

Cons:
-I can't find a flaw with this little thing, even if I try to. But I guess the annoying part is the very short(vertically) screen. It's pretty tall compared to other netbooks.

Our average is having 3-4 computers/laptops at a time because we need them for work. We have two old/1st generation macbooks (quite heavy) and needed something easy to carry around. We have a quite good knowledge about computers, read many reviews, and became fascinated about the NC-10, which is a kind of "mystery" computer that is not sold in electronics stores (at least around here).

The screen is the best but does not support full HD (as the HP), which is bad because we cannot connect it to our flat screen TV to watch movies from Netflix. The mouse pad is way to small!!! I've had this netbook for about a month, and it's performed very nicely for both personal and work-related use. I don't hesitate to recommend this model.

The battery life is fantastic, the quality of construction is very good, it seems to have all the computing power I need, and it doesn't have one of those awful gloss screens that seem to be all the rage in the most recent generation of laptops.

When I was shopping for netbooks, some of the reviews talked about the keyboard size as an issue, and others talked about the touchpad as a design flaw. I have big hands for a girl, and I don't have trouble with the keyboard. The touchpad does take some getting used to, but after the first few days, I adjusted. When I'm really serious about working, though, I use an external mouse.

I purchased a copy of Office 2007, and there's no problem running applications simultaneously - plenty of guts - though I did upgrade to 2G RAM as soon as I unboxed this computer.

I do use an external headset for audio and video conferences because the on-board mic's sound quality isn't fabulous. The webcam, however, does the job.

I'm happy that this computer shipped with XP, but, as I've come to find out, there is at least one benefit of running Vista. I use Microsoft's ink tools extensively at work - my work computer is a tablet PC - and I bought a Wacom Bamboo USB tablet to try and mirror that functionality on this computer. The bad news is that the ink tools in Office 2007 running on XP are only available in OneNote. Vista automatically recognizes USB tablets and makes those tools available.

I wanted to buy a netbook for surfing and basic word processing while my Dell XPS laptop was back at dell for repair. Given the issues I had with my Dell I wanted to go with a non-dell brand. After much research I elected to buy the Samsung because of the screeen and battery life - and I'm glad I did.

The screen is bright and clear and looked sharper than the HP mini netbook and Asus Eee PC Netbook that were on display at Best Buy. Additionally the whole unit is about the size of the screen - not like the Asus where the screen is framed in by a good 1 1/2" of plastic on all sides.

It was super easy to upgrade the memory to 2G - I removed the cover, poped out the old, replaced with the new $26 memory and replaced cover. Total upgrade time was less than 5 min.

The keyboard is also suprisingly comfortable and easy to type on. Size and feel are booth really good.

The battery life is really good. I have had at least 6 hours of charge with basic use (bluetooth turned off).

The design is thoughtful and simplified - just what you need nothing more. (more like the HP than the Asus which was kind of clunky).

Finally I'd like to do a shout out to JR's Music and Computer via Amazon. I ordered on a Thursday by noon, selected regular shipping and had my unit the next day - WOW.

Cons - this unit doesn't have the Microsoft Works that some of the other netbooks include I had to add it which did add to the price - but I think it was worth it.

On the Asus, the touchpad is in a slight depression, making it easier to find in the dark or without looking. I love that I can take it anywhere. Love that it's pretty fast in loading. When I purchased the netbook, I also purchased an extra 1G of memory, but I haven't felt the need to install that yet. Avid computer nerd; Works great for surfing the web. IE 8 works a bit slowly with multiple tabs up...wouldn't use it for any heavy processing...but it is a NETbook.

Screen brightness even on low is quite sufficient to work comfortably indoors and in the shade on a cloudy day. Even with screen turned half way down and the processor cranking with the wireless running I get a good 7 hours out of the battery! Speakers leave something to be desired; but then again it's a NETbook.

And finally; the keyboard is great! Also have an MSI Wind...biggest difference between the two: battery life. NC10 beats the Wind by at least an hour and a half--same weight. For those of you worried about the touch pad size...I don't think you'll notice a big difference between the NC10 and the Wind (or others)--both are small. Webcam works fantastically.

Quick thoughts:

1gb of memory is more than enough for me. I often have several programs opened at once and experience no detectable decrease in performance. Right now, i've got MS word, notepad, google chrome and VLC media player opened up and everything is running smoothly. Granted, most of those are all lightweight programs. I wouldn't recommend this computer for people who like to use photoshop and whatnot though.

Speakers are pretty awful but I don't really care about that.

Keyboard is a little uncomfortable but tolerable enough for me.

The touch pad is a little annoying. You can zoom in or out with the motion of your fingers. I actually hate that because I often do it accidentally. The touch pad is also small and can be quite annoying to navigate with so I adjusted the speed of the pointer to the highest setting in the control panel. This fixed the problem for me.

In regards to website display, i've only encountered a few websites that were not compatible. Most appear normally.

Battery life is excellent. I usually get 6.5 hours.

The webcam is disappointing even though it's 1.3 megapixels.

Aesthetically, this thing is a beauty! It looks a lot like the pink Vaio on the exterior and resembles a macbook in the inside.

Purchased over four weeks ago with external hard drive and bluetooth mouse. Have not yet installed extra 1 MB RAM.

I'm really happy with my purchase. I did a lot of research before buying and I'm glad that I got this one. The size is great, especially that the keyboard is almost normal size. It has great wireless connectivity. I was on vacation and always was able to find a network that had descent speed. I did buy a mouse though, but that's something I don't like about all laptops. But the touchpad on this one does have a really neat scroll bar. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I still wish the minis had a CD drive.

I was waiting for HP to release the 2140 with the HD display but when they did, all they had as smart, pre-built options had a 6-cell battery. But wait, their 6-cell is not like the NC10 6-cell, theirs sticks down vertically which would cause quite a problem when inserting and removing from sleeves, bags, etc. I could have just purchased the 6-cell smart-buy option and buy an additional 3-cell as an accessory but they don't offer it as an accessory! I called HP and complained and they said my only option was to configure it myself with a 3-cell, but then it would have been $150 more (over $600 total) for less of a netbook!!! I was thoroughly fed-up. I also could have gone with HP's 1035NR but was so fed up with them that I didn't want to give them my business.

My other option was the Lenovo S10, but didn't hear any good reviews on the standard 3-cell battery life. Again, I could have gotten the 6-cell option but it stuck out of the back of the netbook. The NC10 6-cell is made for the netbook and does not stick out at all; it fits flush, which is nice.

I ordered the white version and it is a nice pearlized white. It is not shiny/glossy so it does not show fingerprints at all.

The netbook came with a plain, standard, soft touch sleeve which is nice since now I don't have to buy a sleeve.

I have used the netbook for a few hours over the weekend and it runs very nice. I went to crucial.com and did a system scan and ordered a 2 GB RAM upgrade for $27.99 before shipping. The netbook is thoroughly fast already, but why not double the RAM when it's only $27.99 and really easy to install?

As for the quality of the notebook, it feels sturdy, but the screen is the flat finish and not crisp like the HP Minis. I ended up returning this notebook because the touchpad wasn't functional, it was extremely difficult to use the touchpad and because my daughter has the HP Mini, the touchpad was very smooth and usable, I've always been a mouse user but with the HP Mini I was able to use the touchpad with extreme ease and not get frustrated with manuevering around it. The Samsung I would definitely have to use the mouse to be productive. However the built in camera is better than the HP Mini. I bought the NC10 for travel business purposes. I need to check emails when out of the office but don't like carting around a laptop. I can toss this little guy in my briefcase; small and light weight. At home, it is also good for my wife to use for web browsing and emailing. Again, lightweight and small size are big pluses. Plus 6 hours of battery mean no power cords around; it can be charged overnight.

Pros:
- Size and lightweight.
- Great battery life
- Almost full size keyboard with nice feel to keys.
- Windows XP operating system (I'm not a Vistas fan)
- Screen is nice size & very bright (with 8 settings).
- Operates almost as fast as my custom built fullsize biz computer.
- Relatively inexpensive

Cons: None for my purposes but all netbooks have limitations; these include:
- No CD/DVD player
- Limited software (no Windows office, etc).
- Sound is pitiful.
- Touch pad is not my cup of tea.


Things I added:
- Digitech VX nano mouse (works great... around 40 bucks)
- 2 GB memory (easy to install; read "how to" in user guide on NC10)
- Samsung SE-SOP84B external CD/DVD drive (works fine; not sure if needed... around 65 bucks)

Bottom line, I'm really impressed with the NC10; if I had understood netbooks a few months ago I would not have bought a laptop.

If your looking for a netbook as a second computer, this one is hard to beat. Do price shop carefully; prices are all over the board. Also, price seems to vary by color.

Some advice from personal experience. I purchased a generic external USB Slim DVD CD R/RW Drives Burner Writer from ebay for $30 to watch DVD's and play games. They are usually $40-$50 with shipping included (shipped from China) and downloaded the Intervideo XPACK after coupon for $12 and have had no problems. If the audio/video freezes plug in the power usb cord in addition to the usb cord for playing the device and this solves the problem. This download gives you the software and decoder allowing you to play your DVD with the Intervideo, Windows Media Player or Real Player.

I have bought a lot of stuff from Amazon.com but I have never left a comment. I recently bought a Samsung Netbook and was so impressed I had to leave a review. I am VERY impressed with this Netbook. I went to Best Buy, Electronics Stores, Office Depot, etc. to try out various Netbooks and considered several other brands. But I kept considering the Samsung because 1) Matte Screen - I did not want to see my reflection or see the glare of the office lights and I want to use it outside 2) Quality - I have a Samsung phone and it works great so I trust the brand 3) Keyboard, keyboard, keyboard! As a fast touch typist I always found something wrong with the other keyboards. Usually the right Shift key was in the wrong place or too small. This one is a very good compromise. Even the page up/page down keys are in a logical place. Unlike the Dell (which has 'flat' keys, the Samsung keys are beveled and has just enough gap between keys to let you feel the correct finger position. The newer Samsung has slightly larger keys, but I didn't want the glossy screen. The keyboard on this netbook is a very good compromise between size and usability. I am using it to write this review. I was concerned about the shiny case (fingerprint magnet) but it wipes off very easily. And I was tired of the same old black color (I got the blue). I upgraded to 2GB RAM for $20 and it is more than fast enough for most of the stuff I need to do on it. All in all, I am very satisfied. Perfect size, great price and most of all, a keyboard that will NOT drive you nuts when you try to type on it. I've had this netbook for about 3 weeks now. I've been travelling a lot and it is great. I like this notebook much more than my dell latitude D630 which cost me over $1000. This laptop has a great screen and is the ultimate computer buddy. The only thing is that video is a little choppy in full screen mode and the sound is not very audible if there is background noise.
